About Our Team
Getting your Social Security Disability Benefits is ALL WE DO!
Who We Are
We exclusively handle social security disability and SSI claims. Our mission is to protect the social security disability and SSI rights of disabled adults and children. Our office consists of attorneys and support staff who are all trained and experienced in social security disability matters.
The Law Center for Social Security Rights was created because of the complex process that individuals face when seeking benefits from the Social Security Administration.  At the Law Center, we make every effort to help and guide people in navigating the overwhelming rules and regulations that are involved in applying for benefits. We understand that when you are not feeling well, are under stress, or facing financial problems, it becomes burdensome to have to deal with the Social Security Administration.  Our mission is to provide effective, full-service attorney representation at all levels of the process.
Our commitment is to ensure that everyone who calls The Law Center for Social Security Rights will get their questions promptly answered without cost or obligation. Our policy is to provide competent, comprehensive, and compassionate representation. All cases are handled with the highest degree of professionalism and courtesy. We can assist through every phase, from the application, development, and hearings and appeals. After a case is won, we assist with the processing of the past due benefits awarded.
We maintain a very active SSI practice for those disabled who are unable to qualify for social security disability on the basis of their work record and have limited resources. We also provide representation in disabled children claims for SSI benefits. Our greatest satisfaction is derived from a successful representation of disabled children.
We believe that our experience makes a difference in winning a social security disability and/or SSI claim. Now that you know something about us, let us know something about you. Call toll free at 1-800-832-3471 or 248-350-1000.
Clifford B. Walkon
As managing partner, I have been responsible for the transition of the firm to one devoted exclusively to Social Security Disability and SSI law. I have been in practice since 1977 and oversee the work product of our support staff along with maintaining a very busy caseload. Indeed, I have probably handled as many administrative hearings as any other attorney in the state. I have given presentations and seminars to various organizations. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University and my law degree from the Detroit College of Law in 1977. I take pride in my ability to advocate for my clients, with compassion, and thoroughly develop the record, as well as paying attention to detail. Because of my diverse personal and professional background, I can utilize a unique and refreshing perspective in pursuing benefits for my clients. After all these years of practice, I still find Social Security Disability and SSI law challenging and very rewarding. I can think of no other area of law where obtaining benefits for your client can make the difference between paying your bills and being homeless.. For me, this is the driving force that keeps me in practice.

I have been with The Law Center for Social Security Rights since 1986. I received my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1984 and my Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Michigan State University in 1990. Having dedicated my entire legal career to the practice of Social Security law, and having handled thousands of social security cases, I have a wealth of knowledge as to how a case should proceed and what proofs will be needed to accomplish the goal of favorably adjudicating a case. I extensively write briefs, both at the administrative level and the Federal Court level. Indeed, I currently have multiple Federal Court appeals which require me to meticulously review hundreds of administrative records to evaluate whether errors have been made by the Administrative Law Judge in denying a Social Security disability claim. I was elected the State Bar of Michigan Chairperson for the Social Security Section and continue to be active in the section. I pride myself on working closely with clients and their doctors to move cases through the application process in a timely and thorough manner. I am also proud of the dedicated and persuasive advocacy of our firm.

I have been with The Law Center for Social Security Rights since 1991. I received my Bachelors of Science from Eastern Michigan University in 1989 and my Juris Doctorate from University of Detroit School of Law in 1992. I clerked for a Federal Magistrate in the United States Eastern District Court of Michigan prior to joining The Law Center. I have devoted my entire career to the practice of Social Security and SSI disability law. I served as chairperson of the Social Security Lawyers Section for the State Bar of Michigan from 1998 to 1999. I remain an active member of the Social Security Lawyers Section and I am also a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimant Representatives (NOSSCR). For nearly 25 years, I have been involved in all aspects of the Social Security process, included the initial applications, Administrative hearings, and the Federal Court level, including both the Eastern and Western District Courts. In addition to representing claimants in disability claims, I have presented numerous Social Security seminars designed to educate medical personnel, including: physicians, social workers and nurses. I thoroughly enjoy the practice of Social Security law and am proud to be an attorney with The Law Center for Social Security Rights.

I devote my practice exclusively to Social Security Disability Law. My success lies in thoroughly developing the medical record, writing persuasive legal briefs, and aggressively advocating for my clients at all stages, from the initial application to the hearing. I received my Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University Law School where I worked at the Disability Law Clinic. As an active member of the Clinic, I assisted low-income individuals with disabilities on a range of issues, including SSI/SSDI, health insurance, and special education. I also hold a Master of Arts from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Science, with distinction, from Indiana University.
